It's Not Too Late to Turn from Trump

Remember - It's never too late to change.

I'm directing this post to anyone who is still endorsing Trump and plans to vote for him in November.

I believe I've heard some of you say you support Trump because he is a Republican. But George W. Bush, the last 2-term Republican president, says he's not voting for Trump in November. Does that mean you believe Trump is a better Republican president than George W?

Mitt Romney, a lifelong Republican and a GOP candidate for the presidency in 2012, says he's not voting for Trump. Do you think Trump is a better Republican than Mitt Romney.

I've heard some of you say you support Trump because he is a conservative. But George Will, a life-long conservative and definitely one of the most intelligent, articulate conservatives in America today, says no one should vote for Trump. Does that mean Trump is a better conservative and more intelligent than George Will?

I heard some of you say that you support Trump because he knows how to treat foreign countries. Yet retired Secretary of State and former General Colin Powell said today that not only will he not be voting for Trump in November, he will be voting for his opponent Joe Biden.

I've heard some of you say you support Trump because he is good for your religion. Yet this week, clergy of all faiths came out in opposition to Trump and his photo op stunt with the Bible. In addition, Pope Francis, the head of Catholic Church, has long been opposed to Trump's immigration and other policies. Does that mean Trump knows more about religion than trained religious leaders including the Pope?

I've heard some of you say that you support Trump because he leads the military well as Commander-in-Chief. But at least 5 of the country's most senior military leaders this week parted company with Trump over the way he was going to use the military to attack those protesting him and his polices. Does that mean you think Trump knows more about the military than the generals, at least 2 of them who worked for him before they resigned?

So here's what I think. You may be a Republican, you may be a conservative, you may support Christianity and believe you are a Christian, you may want a strong military and a strong American presence in foreign countries.

But that's not the reason you will be voting for Trump in November. To me right now, I only see 3 true reasons.
(1) You hate Democrats and their platform and fear for what they will do to the country so much that you will vote for a man whom historians have already designated as the worst president in the history of America
(2) You hate either selected or all minorities and you know that Trump will treat them the way you would or (most likely)
(2) You have fallen in love with the orange-tan man reality TV star that is Donald Trump and you are proud to be a member of his cult of personality, no matter what the cost to you and others.

Look. You have the right to vote for whomever you want. And I have the right to criticize your candidate and you for that choice. But I just don't want you to lie to yourself for doing what you are planning to do. I mean you may not care for me personally or as your adversary or as a liberal or for any number of other reasons, but that doesn't mean I don't care about you. And in my world, people who care about other people don't let those people vote for the Lord of Lies without making them confront themselves about that choice.
